Reviews:

"Carbonara has translated the sight of something you may see every day into a dramatic, poised skit." -Grayson Currin, Pitchfork Media

"Carbonara has the songwriting and arranging chops to back up his rich, resonant sound. His tunes run from the unabashedly beautiful and mournful to the ecstatic and knotty....he knits the major to the minor, the modern to the ancient, and makes it seem absolutely natural..." -Matthew Wuethrich, Dusted Magazine

"His playing, though improvisational in nature, is held together by an underlying sense of structure and expert knowledge of the influences he references while showing strict allegiance to none. [He] displays quite a mastery over his instrument" -Cory Card, Foxy Digitalis

"His compositions ruminate rather than dominate...and flourish with patience" -Bill Meyer, Signal To Noise

"Psyched is definitely the correct word to describe their fluid psych-pop with a garage-twinge. Listenable, blastable, and somewhat danceable, Soft People have staying power." -Walrus Music Blog 3/26/08

"a bravura psych masterpiece..." -Doug Wallen, Philadelphia Weekly 3/5/08

long hallway, three slightly open doors

Reviews

This 3" CD-R contains two titular tracks of subtly pulsing powerful glimmerings in hypnotic minimalist patterns and shapes.  The first highly elevated instrumental interactions between gently twittering electronics and slower ambient neon amoebas swaying in phosphorescent Terry Riley moonlight.  The second is acoustic guitar spiderwebs of fractal reductive patterns that rise and fall like puzzled aural questions with no answers. -Dream Magazine

Eric Carbonara delivers an excellent taste of solo guitar work on this two song 3” CDR for the New American Folk Hero label. The thirteen minute “This May Be the End” begins the disc with bouncy acoustic guitar loops that set the staccato rhythm and pace for the song. New instruments come into the piece one at a time, each keeping with the general outline of the song, but still managing to change the mood. The first new arrival is clipped piano, followed by long electric guitar chords, then spacey electronic effects. At about the five minute mark, the longer, more ethereal sounds take over the song, yet the original rhythmic pulse continues to move the song forward. The last four minutes or so are dominated by a heavy organ riff, more electric guitar, and glockenspiel. Really, the whole thing feels like a fractured symphony where only a few instruments play their parts at the same time. From start to finish, the track is engrossing and moves the listener along with its rhythm and multitude of sounds.

The second track, “Long Hallway, Three Slightly Opened Doors” is a minimal acoustic guitar piece that is quiet dissonant, yet still very pretty. Much like the first track, it feels like detached pieces of music provide the small parts of a larger idea. Particularly in headphones, the listener can hear fragments of guitar coming from all different sides to combine into a cohesive piece. It seems as if this deceptively simple piece was recorded on several studio tracks and combined into the stellar final song. The style and skill on display for this disc is quite impressive and really leaves the listener wanted to hear much, much more from Eric Carbonara. 8/10 - Matt Blackall, Foxy Digitalis 06/19/07

Reviews

"selections from the void..." is just that-a sample of a realm with vast space-and with this being music, it would be an accurate (as far as I can tell) aural description of that infinity. Listening to this album is like putting your finger under running hot water. It's an abrasive, uncomfortable sensation at first, but soon you can't tell if the water is hot or cold. Some say it's because your finger is numb-others will say it's because you have induced a trance-like state. I ascribed to the latter and have yet to suffer any burns! -Gregory Best

Reviews

"Moving swiftly sideways into a parallel universe we find The Molecules who tread a fine line between space rock and drone concocting a heady mix of psychedelia full of rippling guitars and dense layers of background noise sounding like the moment in time when you know dawn has arrived. Standout tracks include “God’s Favourite Song” (they might be right!), the short but wonderful “Deet Deet”, or the noisefest surrealism of “Icycle Bicycle”, all good stuff and an album that grows on you like lichen, slow and comforting. This release is a re-issue of long forgotten tapes and is another fine CD from Honeymoon music." -Simon Lewis, Terrascope
